How it is calculated
The CPI index of the final month is divided by that of the starting month. The result is the accumulated variation for the period, and the rent is multiplied by that factor. It is the same operation you get from the published index levels, which is why this page shows both of the values it used.
Which period applies
The lease defines it. In Chile the usual practice is a twelve-month adjustment using the accumulated CPI for the period, but there are six-monthly leases, leases denominated in UF and leases with their own formula. Check the clause before applying the result.
When the CPI is published
The Instituto Nacional de Estadísticas publishes each month's CPI at the start of the following month. Until then that month is not in the series, and this tool neither offers nor estimates it.
